Presentation on my "Cultural Childhood"
As an educator, I want to challenge students to explain thought process. I want students to be able to explain in depth how certain music makes them feel. I want to establish going above and beyond the surface of learning. I want every student to give answers and explain why they believe in them. I want them to become creative and explain their creative and unique ways of thinking to try and enlighten other students on a new point of view. Facet Model on "Mitsukai No Shunaru Ookimi"
One issue with music is the music we choose to teach trying to be culturally appropriate, however we end up belittling the culture. Here is a Facets model I put together teaching a Christmas carol in Japanese. I introduce the students to a new culture, but it is not authentic and I ask them why they think this can be harmful.
Mind Map on "The Battle Pavane"
Critical Thinking is a predominate trait in music teachers, however it is necessary for band directors to have this skill to make interesting and creative activities based on their wind band rep. It is also a good skill to show administrators how music interacts with all scholastic topics. In one of my classes, I was tasked with making a mind map showing how I can expand on one piece of band music for middle school to create enough lessons for almost a whole curriculum. The point of this exercise was to show how we can think of new ways to teach music. This shows the eager and curiosity I show as a music educator and band director. Click the link to see the Mind Map!
