Lesson plan on Paul McCartney's "Blackbird"
Segregation has no place in any music or learning environment. I try my best to get rid of the old ideas of teaching music with the old dead white guys. I want to create a classroom environment with inclusion, equality, and equal access to core principles in education. I want to develop each students understanding of music by focusing on the artistic process. I want to welcome creative ideas and never limit any students musical ideas. As an example of this, I have incorporated Blackbird by Paul McCartney to teach about listening maps AND the Civil Rights in context of music, history, and how they connect with each other.
Lesson plan on Improvised Music in Band
In wind band, students get tired of playing the same old music and lack the freedom to express themselves through music, as a principled practitioner, I have curated a lesson plan where all students can equally engage in expressing themselves however they feel. I made a lesson plan in my Wind Practices for Elementary Band where the band would engage in improvised music with the freedom to express themselves and also respond musically with each other. This is a skill that is overlooked, however greatly needed for every musician.
